One of the dirty little secrets of Gainesville is that while its promoted as ‘bike friendly’ – in reality it is a dangerous place to ride a bike.
I’ve seen cars run into bicyclists on numerous occasions and bike paths have a nasty habit of ending abuptly just when you need them the most – such as when you’re coming upon a busy intersection. And the police presence here is, well, let’s just say it’s robust. I think that’s an adjective they would approve of, and most citizens would agree on. If you like the ‘boys in blue’ and you like seeing them everywhere, then you’ll love it here. And if you’re black, well, you shouldn’t have been born black.
