Does sugar cause acne?

There is a cause and effect relationship between sugar and acne, but does sugar cause acne, can not be answered without an in depth review. To conflate the two parameters is going to lead us to nowhere, therefore to review the matter in isolation first and then to correlate to establish if sugar can cause acne would be the right track to follow. As a first step we need to review the process of sugar consumption.

In case of sugar consumption, the abundance of hormones activates sebaceous glands to produce sebum in excess and this ultimately counts towards development of acne.

How sugar relates with acne? the cellular fragments and extraneous matter, provide a suitable medium or breeding place for the growth of the causative commensals or the bacterial normally found on human skin. Two of them, staphylococcus aureus and propianobacterium acne play active role.
